Located atop a huge granite ridge in the Matopo Hills, Big Cave Camp is built around the boulders and trees giving a very natural feel to the whole lodge.
Guests congregate in the Leopard's Lair which includes a bar, lounge and dining area for communal meals while the cosy library allows some quiet time. The natural rock swimming pool and sundeck is a wonderful spot to relax with a drink and take in the breathtaking views. The stone and thatch chalets compliment the natural surroundings and also enjoy scenic views from their private balconies.
While you can take game drives in the Matobo National Park, a stay at Big Cave Camp allows you to try different activities such as rhino tracking on foot, walks in the hills and visiting rock art sites.
The Matopos Hills were believed to be a sacred and valued place to the San people who spent much time depicting their stories in images drawn on rock hangings and caves in the area. The lodge has preserved this sacred feeling and built their spaces into the boulders to maximise on the natural surroundings and take advantage of the panoramic views. Enjoy the spectacular sunsets, drink in hand and marvel at the majesty of the surrounds.
Whether dining with your fellow guests or enjoying a candlelit dinner in a special hill top location, meals at Big Cave Camp are fresh and delicious.
The lodge has eight stone and thatch A-frame chalets which are warm in winter and cool in summer and have ensuite bathrooms and private balconies. The family rooms can sleep two adults and two children and all the rooms enjoy spectacular views.
Children are welcome to the lodge and three of the rooms can accommodate families.
