A South Africa vs England series is one of cricket’s great contests, and gives you the opportunity to watch cricket at some fantastic grounds, including Cape Town’s iconic Newlands Cricket Ground with its backdrop of Table Mountain. However, travelling to South Africa during the UK’s cold winter months doesn’t just give you the chance to follow the cricket, but also to explore the country’s many delights, including beaches, top class restaurants, beautiful scenery and game reserves.
The best locations and hotels
Currently, the dates and locations of the cricket matches have not been 100% confirmed. However, the main locations including the following:
Cape Town – Catch a comfortable, direct flight with British Airways from London and stay at The Table Bay Hotel, located in this idyllic city’s beautiful waterfront and visited by a host of famous guests, with David Gower set to stay here during the tour.

There are also a range of premium villas and spas here, from the deluxe, four star business hotel and spa: The Maslow, to The Residence - exuding luxury and class, and encouraging relaxation during your Johannesburg stay.
Durban - Conveniently, there are direct flights with British Airways to Durban, from London Heathrow Airport for you to choose from. There is a whole world of hotels to stay in, too, such as The Oyster Box Hotel - a stylish residence boutique in magical Umhlanga, located just north of Durban.
Port Elizabeth – Port Elizabeth is a beautiful city on Algoa Bay; here, holidaymakers can fly from London Heathrow Airport via Johannesburg, to reach this magical destination. Those travelling here for the match can enjoy a stay at the grand Boardwalk Hotel and Spa, with elegant interiors, situated just a short walk away from the beach. Boardwalk Hotel and Spa truly provides a place where you can unwind in utmost luxury.
We have based the two group tours on the Cape Town test match, starting on the 3rd of January 2020. However, do bear in mind that the dates of the other matches will be confirmed soon.

Impressive restaurants and activities to enjoy
South Africa has many fine restaurants to dine at - particularly in Cape Town and the nearby Winelands. So, if you are in Cape Town for the cricket, you will have the pleasure of eating in some of the country’s best restaurants, from La Colombe and Foliage, to The Test Kitchen and The Pot Luck Club.
There are a host of things to discover and explore in the Cape, including a cable car trip to the top of Table Mountain, a visit to the historical prison on Robben Island, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art, the penguin colony at Boulders Beach and the heavenly views at Cape Point.
Before or after the cricket in Durban, you can tour the province of KwaZulu Natal and venture to the Drakensberg Mountains, or join moving and informative tours of famous battlefields such as Rorke’s Drift and Spionkop.
South Africa has an excellent road system, too, and an extensive domestic flight network. So, wherever you watch the cricket, you can easily travel around the country between matches to the main highlights like the Garden Route, Kruger National Park, Cape Town and the Winelands.
How to keep cool in the heat
Our group tours to the Cape Town’s test match include hospitality boxes with comfortable, shaded seating. For other matches, it may be tempting to book seats where you can soak up the sun. However, a day out under the hot African summer sunshine can often take its toll, so ensure you bring along a hat, plenty of sunscreen and keep regularly hydrated throughout the match. Ideally, it’s best to book shaded seats in the stands so you can watch the game in absolute comfort.
