As much as you probably don’t want to hear it, 2019 is right around the corner – which, for us, means we’re already thinking about next year’s holidays. Luckily, there are a number of luxury camps and lodges opening up around Africa, ready to welcome new visitors. From South Africa to Kenya, from Rwanda to Zimbabwe, below are our top 5 new openings for 2019.

1. Nyamatusi Camp, Mana Pools, Zimbabwe – Opening April 2019

Nyamatusi Camp is the latest in the African Bush Camps Collection. Set in one of the wildest and most remote parts of Africa, on the banks of one of the oldest rivers in the world, Nyamatusi will allow guests to experience an authentic view of the old untouched Africa. Inspired by the traditional custodians of the land who respected the river as the source of life, the design of the camp, which will consist of six luxury tented suites will subtly incorporate the element of water and will pay homage to the astounding beauty of the mighty Zambezi River.

2. The Stock Exchange, Cape Town, South Africa – Opening March 2019

The epitome of creativity, a vibrant atmosphere and state-of-the-art facilities merge at the Stock Exchange, an eclectic city hotel located in Cape Town’s most up-and-coming region, Woodstock. The hotel which will form part of a mixed-use building will allow guests to connect with the region’s beat, its exciting atmosphere and its people’s colourful creations, from fashion-forward clothing to compelling cuisine and artisanal products. It will also provide the ideal base from which the rest of Cape Town can be explored, given its central location and its proximity to city transport facilities, including a MyCiTi bus stop, bicycle lanes and a train station.

3, The Farmstead at Royal Malewane, Thornybush Game Reserve, South Africa – Opening June 2019

The Farmstead at Royal Malewane is an exceptional new addition to the eclectic collection of lodges and hotels that fly the Royal Portfolio Collection flag. It occupies an elevated perch in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve, a wildlife sanctuary that shares an unfenced border with Kruger National Park, across which animals spill in great numbers. 4. Singita Kwitonda Lodge, Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda – Opening August 2019

Singita Kwitonda Lodge will be built to embody the spirit of Rwanda and offer a tribute to the lodge’s namesake – Kwitonda – a great silverback gorilla whose legend lives on in Rwanda and was known for his humility and gentleness.  Fundamental to the design is treading lightly on the land.  Singita Kwitonda will offer 8 suites and a villa with magnificent views of the Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes and sustainability is at the core of the construction project.

5. Chikwenya, Mana Pools, Zimbabwe – Opening April 2019

Situated on the eastern boundary of Mana Pools National Park, Chikwenya will be a photographer’s paradise as it will look out over an open floodplain and the broad Zambezi River, with a backdrop provided by the mountains of the Rift Valley escarpment. Chikwenya will be a seven-tented camp, (including two family units). All will stand on low wooden decks and pine walkways that will link them to the raised main area. The lounge, dining and bar area will be places of hospitality and relaxation, and a pool and deck will offer alternate spaces to enjoy the magnificent scenery and passing wildlife.
