Opulent, luxurious, award-winning Shamwari is one of the biggest game reserves on the Eastern Cape, with Riverdene Family Lodge a comfortably appointed lodge with a colonial-style décor.
In addition to game viewing by vehicle and on foot, the lodge offers a great children’s programme with visits to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and the Born Free Big Cat Rescue Centre undoubted highlights for the young safari explorer. Family rooms and children’s activities help to make Riverdene a firm favourite for all ages.
A favourite for families, this lodge offers inter-connecting rooms, children’s activities and a jungle gym. Like all Shamwari properties, it is malaria-free and works very well at the beginning or end of a trip along the Garden Route.
The majority of meals are served in the spacious main dining room, with earlier dinner sittings for children served if required. If weather permits then al fresco dining is always a popular option with guests.
The luxury rooms are all furnished in a contemporary style and are nice and spacious. Three of the rooms are equipped with sleeper couches so good for families with 1 child. Some of the rooms also interconnect, making them ideal for family groups.
Riverdene is the family friendly lodge at Shamwari so the programme is really well tailored towards the younger safari goer. Children will be taken to visit the Born Free Foundation (adults can visit as well!) as well as the Shamwari Animal Rehabilitation Centre.
The children's coordinator has a range of indoor activities that include
Each child receives an age appropriate gift pack on arrival.
Children younger than 4 are not permitted on game drives for safety reasons.
