Namibia is a wonderful country to explore on a self drive itinerary with little traffic, good roads and some spectacular sights to visit. This comprehensive trip takes you to many of Namibia’s highlights including the stunning Fish River Canyon, the famous huge sand dunes at Sossusvlei, the coastal resort town of Swakopmund and game viewing in rugged Damaraland and Etosha before finishing in the lush game parks of the Caprivi Strip, a complete contrast to the desert scenery you will experience in the rest of the country.
Overnight flight to Johannesburg.
Fly to Windhoek and collect hire car. Drive to stay overnight at the Olive Grove Guesthouse, a welcoming oasis in this desert city.
Drive south into the Kalahari desert for a two night stay at Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch, set amongst red sand dunes and from where you can take game drives, learn about Bushman traditions and the ranch’s work with the Cheetah Conservation Fund.
Continue south past the Quiver Tree Forest near Keetmanshoop to the spectacular Fish River Canyon. Stay for two nights at Fish River Lodge perched on the canyon rim with the chance to explore the canyon floor on foot or by 4x4.
Today, drive north to Klein Vista Desert House for a two night stay during which you can visit the coastal town of Luderitz, the deserted diamond mining town of Kolmanskop and the area’s wild desert horses
Drive north to stay for two nights at Sossusvlei which is next to the entrance gate to the famous towering dunes around Sossusvlei.
Continue onward to the charming coastal town of Swakopmund for three night stay at Villa Margherita, the perfect base from which to explore the coastline and inland dunes.
Drive north into the stark beauty of Damaraland to stay for three nights at Mowani Mountain Camp, where the accommodation is hidden amongst large granite boulders and you can visit rock engravings and search for desert elephant
Continue to Etosha to stay for two nights on safari at Ongava Lodge, from where game drives into the Etosha National Park can be enjoyed as well as drives and walks on Ongava’s own reserve.
Today, drive through Etosha National Park stopping to view game at the waterholes. Stay for three nights at Mushara Bush Camp, located just outside the National Park.
Drive north to the banks of the Okavango River for an overnight stop at Hakusembe River Lodge
Drive into the Caprivi Strip (now renamed the Zambezi Region), a verdant region of rivers and floodplains. Stay for two nights at Divava Okavango Lodge, a luxurious base to visit Popa Falls and Mahango Game Park.
Continue your drive through Caprivi to Mudumu National Park and a three night stay at Lianshulu Lodge, a tranquil riverside lodge where you can relax and enjoy game drives and river cruises
Return your hire car to Katima Mulilo from where you will be taken by road into Botswana. Fly from Kasane to Johannesburg to connect with the direct overnight flight to the UK, arriving the following morning.
