As you fly by helicopter to &Beyond Benguerra Island looking out over the blue ocean and the beach fringed islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago you know you are travelling to somewhere very special.
This barefoot luxury lodge sits in the shade of casuarina and palm trees overlooking the Indian Ocean. Relax around the infinity edge pool, indulge in a treatment in the massage sala or enjoy a cold drink in the beach bar, a converted traditional wooden dhow boat.
There are plenty of options for the active too with superb scuba diving and snorkelling with the chance to see a rare dugong. You can also take the ocean on deep sea fishing trips, dhow and catamaran cruises and sea kayaking while the island's sand dunes, forests and villages can also be explored.
The lodge has just 12 rooms and a three bedroom villa, all of which are close to the beach and feature private decks with plunge pools. The style throughout is light and tropical with designs reflecting both Africa and Mozambique's Portuguese heritage.
Glorious sunsets, pristine sand, superb marine life and private cottages mere steps from the beach - heaven.
The pleasure of dining at &Beyond Benguerra is not confined to what you eat (fresh seafood abounds of course) but where you eat, from a relaxing breakfast overlooking the ocean to a romantic picnic in the sand dunes and a candlelit dinner on the beach.
The lodge has 12 rooms and a three bedroom villa with a light, tropical style with touches of African and Portuguese design. The thatched rooms are just steps from the beach and have four-poster beds, private decks with a plunge pool, hammock and an outdoor shower. The villa is perfect for families and each of the three bedrooms has an ensuite bathroom.
Children of all ages are welcome and the three bedroom Casa de Familia is perfect for families.
