An exquisite island paradise off the north east tip of Zanzibar, Mnemba is regarded as one of the best beach destinations in the world.
Ten luxury bandas dot the perfect white coral sand beach while traditional Zanzibari beach beds wait on the sand. Out on the reefs there is an abundance of marine life – almost 600 species of fish, and there are also seasonal sightings of humpback whale, whale sharks and three species of dolphin.
Zanzibar’s most exclusive and luxurious property occupies a private island off the north-east coast. Seaside chic is very much in evidence here with stripped-down luxury thatch bandas and stylish public areas. Undoubtedly expensive but everything is included in the cost, from cutting-edge food and laundry to all scuba diving.
Open thatched dining and sitting areas provide the perfect place to watch the sun set. Deep pillows and low wooden tables open up onto majestic views of the white beach. Enjoy lunch served on large, wooden carved platters, while island crabs scuttle across the sand. Later, when the magnificent African sky lights up with stars, dinner is served on the beach, with the bright moonlight reflecting off the waves as they gently lap on the beach.
Ten Zanzibari bandas, with direct access to the beach. Each banda is built of indigenous materials, mostly woven and thatched with palm leaves. The bandas have en-suite bathrooms with shower, double-basins, separate w.c., fresh water (obtained from a desalination plant), ceiling fans, personal bar and a spacious outdoor veranda. Each banda also has a private beach sala with traditional Zanzibari sunbeds.
Children under 12 are welcome at the lodge (a maximum of 2 children on the island at any one time). An extra bed can be arranged for a child 16 years and younger sharing its parents’ banda. No more than 1 triple at any one time. There are 2 bandas in close proximity; ideal for families.
