An extraordinary piece of architecture sits on the rim of the largest unbroken caldera in the world. Both are magical. Nearly three-million-years-old, the caldera is shelter to thousands of animals.
The lodge is divided into three distinct camps, with Tree Camp accommodating just 12 guests and North & South Camp each offering 12 suites. Each suite has its own private deck, sumptuous bathroom, fireplace and butler service. A truly magnificent property in a truly magnificent setting.
As one of only a handful of properties which sits on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, this lodge tends to get booked up very well in advance so early booking is highly recommended. Barely visible from below, each room at this well-camouflaged lodge has a balcony overlooking the crater floor – which is one of the best spots for a pre-dinner G&T.
The camp is split into three areas (10 lodges per area) making it a more intimate dining experience. Each dining room is domed, where sparkling silver and crystal vie for attention with the huge windows and awe-inspiring views. The food and service is fantastic, and you are given your own personal butler.
There is a real whimsical influence throughout each lodge, giving it a very romantic and luxurious feel. From the Victorian inspired furniture, teak panelling and Africa touches to the hand-beaded chandelier raised above the bath tub no detail is left unfinished – making it a dreamy place to hole up in.
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge although caters children is not really suitable for children under the age of 15. This is due to the vast wilderness and drive safaris.
Families, however, can join WILDChild, &Beyond’s fun-filled children’s programme: it is designed to grow the knowledge and enthusiasm for nature of younger travellers, while amusing themselves with a range of life-changing activities. Presented by professionally trained rangers and lodge staff, it aims to encourage family travel, giving the chance to see the world through different eyes, within a luxury leisurely ambience.
