Many safari lodges rightly concentrate on giving their guests the ultimate game viewing experience possible and, whilst this is also the way they like to do things at Chem Chem, the approach is very different. Here they have created and perfected the idea of the "slow safari" where guests are encouraged to get off the vehicle, enjoy walking safaris and get up close and personal to the big game of the area.
The location is ideal delivering this concept, with easy access to the Manyara and Tarangire National Parks for the big game, but offering exclusive access into the Burunge Wildlife Management area for walks, night drives and birding excursions.
The camp has a very classical feel to it with large, comfortable tented rooms each offering indoor baths and outdoor showers as well as their own private verandas and deck areas. With private dining included as standard, Chem Chem does suit guests looking for a more intimate and secluded safari experience, but there is a lovely atmosphere around the camp and it is a superb base from which to explore the area.
Tucked away in the Burunge Wildlife Management area, Chem Chem is a great lodge for experienced safari goers looking to enjoy great game viewing but at a slightly slower pace. With easy access to the Manyara and Tarangire National Parks it offers the chance for great big game viewing, but the private concession in the Burunge Wildlife Management area allows for walking safaris and night drives and much more exploration than would be allowed in the public National Parks.
All guests dine privately at Chem Chem with the location changing every evening. The food here is superb and a real feature of your stay. There is an excellent wine list to to accompany meals as well. If you are doing a day trip to Manyara or Tarangire then you will take a picnic lunch with you so you can enjoy a full day out exploring the wildlife.
The camp is comprised of 7 spacious tents and 1 two bedroom family tent. The tents have a really classical safari feel and are very spacious and comfortable. All tents have outdoor showers but indoor baths. There are small deck areas at the front of each tent to relax on during the afternoon.
Children are welcome from age 10 and above, but those12 years and under must share the tent with their parents due to the open game area surrounding the camp.
