Desert Rhino Camp is in the vast Palmwag concession, an area of flat topped mountains, rocky hills and plains in the ruggedly beautiful Damaraland region.
The area is home to the largest free roaming population of black rhino in Africa and the chance to track these desert adapted animals on foot is a highlight of a stay here. This arid area supports a surprising amount of other game too including zebra, giraffe, springbok and elephant and, if you are lucky, you may see a rare desert lion.
This intimate camp has just eight tents with an open sided lounge and dining tent and a plunge pool to help you cool down in the heat of the day.
Run in conjunction with the Save the Rhino Trust a stay at Desert Rhino Camp not only offers a great safari experience but also contributes to the preservation of these endangered animals.
Tracking desert adapted rhino on foot is an experience not to be missed.
Dining is usually around a communal table in the dining tent or perhaps around the firepit under the clear desert sky. Picnics in the wilderness on a full day game drive are also possible.
The camp has just eight ensuite tents linked by gravel walkways and set on a raised deck with a verandah to take in the stunning desert views.
Children of six and over are accepted but please note that there is a minimum age of 16 for rhino tracking and 13 for the guided nature walks.
