With truly breathtaking views, Fish River Lodge perches on the edge of one of the world's largest canyons. Situated on the western side of Fish River Canyon the lodge is part of the Canyon Nature Park, a vast desert wilderness of parched plains and rugged, flat topped mountains.
The stunning views of the canyon can be enjoyed from all parts of the lodge including the swimming pool, lounge and dining deck and also from the 20 simple, modernist chalets which feature large glass doors and verandahs to make the most of the awe inspiring vistas.
It is possible to take guided and self guided walks on the rim of the canyon and sundowner drives to a scenic viewpoint are very popular. A highlight of any visit is the opportunity to travel into the heart of the canyon either on a guided 4x4 trip with lunch at a permanent rock pool or, for the fit, a full day hike is available in winter. For the more adventurous one, two and three night hiking and camping trips can be arranged during the cooler winter months.
Some of the best views of any lodge in Africa and the only lodge to offer day visits into the Fish River Canyon.
Good quality, home cooked food is served outdoors on the deck in summer or in the dining room warmed by cosy fires in winter.
The lodge has 20 individual chalets spread out along the rim of the canyon so the views are incredible, especially in the mornings when you can lie in bed and the rising sun slowly lights up the canyon below. The chalets are modernist in style with large bathrooms, outdoor showers and large glass doors and verandahs to make the most of the view.
While children of all ages are accepted at Fish River Lodge it is located on the edge of the canyon so close supervision is needed at all times.
