Nestled between mountain and sea, the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is a five-star eco-paradise showcasing the incredible Flora and Marine life of the Southern Tip of Africa. Home of the "Marine Big 5" - whales, sharks, dolphins, seals and penguins; and with unparalleled floral diversity, Grootbos offers you a one-of-a-kind luxury African experience.
Two five-star lodges house a selection of rooms and suites, each with its own deck or patio and great views across the bay, and there are also the exclusive & magnificent four and six suite Villas, which include a butler, chef and guide. Grootbos is a nature lover’s delight with the forest, the beach and the ocean and a plethora of activities to explore each one, including hikes and caged shark dives, whale-watching and horse-riding on the beach.
However, Grootbos is about more than just luxury accommodation and eco adventures. Your visit directly contributes to the conservation efforts of the Grootbos Foundation as well as the development of sustainable nature-based livelihoods amongst local communities. It is this core philosophy of conservation linked with social development that has made Grootbos an award-winning world leader in responsible tourism.
A proper ‘green’ property, with the local community and environment genuinely benefitting from its existence. The wildlife enthusiast will love the whale-watching, shark-diving and horse-riding, and the modern suites & spa will keep the sybarite happy. Ask, if possible, to have dinner in the underground cellar.
The Forest Lodge Restaurant
The combination of hospitality and culinary delights is almost overwhelming to the senses: each dish with a personality of colours, divine flavour and delicate aroma, complimented by a fine selection of local wines from their own cellar will treat you to a true fusion of African flavour and European cuisine!
The Garden Restaurant at Garden Lodge
Enjoy your meal with the view of Walker Bay as your entertainment in the beautiful setting of The Garden Restaurant. Extending out on to the pool area and deck it is the perfect place for sundowners overlooking the bay while surrounded by fynbos, and if the weather is a bit cooler have a seat by the fire and take full advantage of the large bar area.
Split between Garden and Forest Lodge. Forest Lodge is all one-bedroom luxury suites. Garden Lodge is made up of one-bedroom classic and luxury suites and 2 x two-bedroom luxury suites. Rooms are all similarly equipped, including DVD players, fireplaces and minibars. Size of rooms dictates their category.
Superb for children, very family focused, especially with the 2 Bedroom Suites at Garden Lodge. Child specific programmes for exploring the reserve and teaching them more about the surroundings.
Outdoor activities include exploring the organic farm and assisting the gardeners in picking fruit and veg, collecting eggs from the chicken coop or enjoy the outdoor play area. There are horses, fluffy bunnies, pigs and ducks on the farm. The nearby beach allows for shell collecting and exploring the lime stone caves and the milkwood forest makes the ideal setting for a treasure hunt or a game of hide and seek. With abundant Fynbos on the property, children are taught about different plants, animals and birds in the surrounding area.
Children are at all times supervised by the child minder.
