The rugged, rocky desert scenery in this part of Damaraland in north eastern Namibia is truly magnificent with ancient rock engravings, desert adapted animal and plant life and unusual rock formations to explore.
Built around huge granite boulders, Mowani Mountain Camp is an oasis of peace and tranquillity, its round, thatched buildings blending into the environment. On nature drives you may see desert elephant and visits to the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein, guided and self guided walking trails are also available.
Back at the lodge you can relax by the plunge pool set between huge boulders, take in the views from your room's deck and enjoy a cold drink at the spectacular sundowner spot.
There is something about the setting amongst the boulders which gives Mowani a special atmosphere and the sundowner spot has to be one of Africa's best.
Buffet breakfasts, light lunches and set menu candlelit dinners are served in the dining room or outside.
Mowani's thirteen rooms have thatched, rounded roofs mirroring the domed boulders amongst which they sit and canvas sides that can be rolled up to reveal the wonderful views. The rooms are simply but elegantly furnished with some having slightly better views as they have a more elevated position.
The Mini Suite offers more luxury with a private lounge complete with satellite television and minibar and an open air bathroom.
The Mountain Suite has butler service, an air conditioned lounge with satellite television and private dining facilities. You can enjoy great views from the outdoor shower and bush bath.
Children of all ages are accepted at Mowani but there are no specific children's facilities or activities. Note that only children under the age of 12 can share a room with adults.
