Set in the remote Nsefu area of the South Luangwa National Park, the camp offers the perfect location to deliver excellent game viewing and bird watching. Indeed, the main bar and lounge area is the best place to take in the scenic views and offers sensational game viewing without even leaving camp. Morning and night drives plus guided walking safaris provide ample opportunity to see Luangwa's wide variety of wildlife: elephant, lion and leopard are often spotted in the area, which also hosts the greatest density of hippo in Africa. From mid-January to late March the Luangwa River floods but this allows access by boat into areas that are inaccessible at other times of the year and provides a unique game viewing experience. Another special experience at Nsefu is the overnight walking safari through Luangwa's most rewarding riverine areas to end at a fly camp - a simple bush camp that sleeps four people.
The major plus of Nsefu is its location, set as it is almost on its own in the vast Nsefu concession, ensuring lucky guests will encounter almost no-one else during a stay. Only open for eight months of the year, it is renowned for its photographic safaris.
Set beside a huge termite mound, the shaded lounge and bar area at Nsefu commands a spectacular view of the Luangwa River where the elephants cross on a daily basis. A small, informative library is also provided.
Breakfasts and light, healthy lunches are served buffet-style while dinners are a social occasion enjoyed in the central dining area or in a large thatched shelter downstream from camp and with views of the Luangwa River. Nsefu's bar overlooks a waterhole which makes it the perfect location to grab a drink, sit down and watch out for animals, especially leopards at night.
Nsefu's original six brick rondavels – traditional round and thatched buildings – have been superbly renovated to include a spacious, open-air en suite bathroom with wilderness views and a private wooden deck where you can relax and watch wildlife pass by your front door.
