Old Mondoro has a unique location in the Lower Zambezi National Park, as it occupies an area of vast floodplains and grasslands, making it an ideal base for prolonged walking safaris. The view out to the Zambezi river is fantastic, with plenty of animals coming down to drink and there is a permanent population of hippos to view in their large pools. Guests will spend much of their time here on foot, although game drives, canoeing trips and motorboat safaris are also offered. The huge decking area is a popular spot for guests to relax on during the day and elephant often pass right by the deck making for some wonderful photography opportunities.
A simple yet comfortable bush camp, Old Mondoro is a fantastic base for walking safaris in the Lower Zambezi. It combines really well with a stay at it’s sister camp, Chiawa, which is an hour and twenty minutes away by boat.
The focus of the food at Old Mondoro is simple yet delicious bush cuisine. Meals are generally cooked on the open fire and served under the stars looking out onto the Zambezi.
The 6 chalets at Old Mondoro have screened sides and canvas roofs, giving beautiful views out into the bush during the day. They are closed at night to give a feeling of privacy and security.
