Shumba Bush Camp lies on the legendary Busanga Plains in the far north of Zambia's wild Kafue National Park, home to thousands of red lechwe, puku, stately roan and sable antelopes as well as the diminutive oribi and duiker. You'll also find Defassa waterbuck, herds of tsessebe, hartebeest, zebra and buffalo. This wealth of game is naturally a big attraction for predators - leopards, wild dogs, cheetah and prides of lion are all found in the area. Needless to say, Shumba Bush Camp places great emphasis on its wildlife experiences which are led by qualified, passionate guides with an in-depth knowledge of the area and its fauna and flora. Prepare to enjoy day and night game drives, walking safaris, guided canoe and boating trips as well as fishing excursions. The birdlife in this area is quite extraordinary and a guided walking safari is the best way to spot as many of the 400 recorded species as possible.
Although behind the likes of the Victoria Falls, South Luangwa & Lower Zambezi National Parks in Zambia’s pecking order, the Kafue National Park is well worth a visit. Shumba is the Parks’ premier offering, with the large tents the rival of any in East Africa. Particularly good for those in search of wild dog.
The dining room, bar and lounge area at Shumba Bush Camp are situated under a canopy of majestic trees with 180 degree views of the Busanga Plains. Step out onto the expansive wooden deck with its comfortable seating areas and sunken plunge pool, and survey the often astonishing game-filled scenes in front of you.
Enjoy delicious meals around the large dining table with views across the teeming plains. Dinners are often served in the traditional boma around a fire and under the African stars. The camp offers a fully stocked bar with a good selection of South African wines.
Shumba Bush Camp comprises only six spacious luxury safari tents on raised platforms that lead onto large balconies with breathtaking views of the surrounding plains. All the elegantly decorated tents are en suite and include an indoor and outdoor shower.
