Acclaimed as one of the premier resorts in South Africa, if not on the whole continent; The Palace of the Lost City is an imaginative feast in a monumental building, it is a playground for all ages.
The Palace of the Lost City is an astounding architectural one-off which is decorated with frescos, murals, sculptures and artworks, with pride of place going to the life-size sculpture of the elephant, Shawu. The gloriously planted gardens and parkland have been recognised as being of Botanical Gardens status, and it has a large choice of restaurants and bars, including “The Crystal Court”, “The King’s Tower”, “The Grill Room” and the “Tusk Bar & Lounge”. The palace itself is encircled by “The Lost City”; a haven of activities and entertainment which includes two 18-hole golf courses (devised by the much-admired designer Gary Player), an amphitheatre for concerts and an awe-inspiring water park – the Valley of the Waves. Lovers of water sports can also go to Sun City’s Waterworld, where you can be taught how to wakeboard, waterski or jet ski by expert instructors. Waterworld lets you experience both the adrenaline rush of parasailing and the calming serenity of a stunning sunset lake cruise. If these aren’t to your tastes, the other activities on-site include a number of tennis courts for sports enthusiasts and a kid’s club for younger visitors. The Palace is also equipped with five-star facilities and amenities, with high-quality room service, internet access and a safety deposit box all provided.
The Palace of the Lost City is a member of sun international’s prestigious SunLux collection; a group of Africa’s most astonishing luxury hotels. It is situated within the Pilanesberg mountains on an extinct volcanic site in South Africa, meaning its unique architecture is matched in beauty by its natural surroundings.
With Sun City's ever-present sunny climate there is never a truly bad time to visit, depending on how busy you would like your stay to be. Peak season in Sun City is usually the end of summer from December to January, and then Easter season in January when you can expect even warmer weather than usual, but be advised that there may be less room availability at The Palace during this busy period. The Autumn months of May to September are slightly cooler and quieter, but if you're looking to visit the Valley of the Waves make sure you check ahead before you book as the park is usually closed down for a month for maintenance.
The beating heart of Sun City, The Palace is an architectural masterpiece, and it often glitters, literally, in the sun. It is so spectacular that daily guided tours of the complex are even offered to guests.
The regal Palace of the Lost City’s main restaurant is the Crystal Court, serving African cuisine and featuring a huge crystal chandelier. The Pool deck serves light meals, as does the Crocodile Lounge. Drinks and cocktails can be enjoyed at the Tusk Bar and Lounge.
To say that The Palace of the Lost City was fairytale-esque, may be a slight understatement. In true African opulence, you are surrounded by ultimate luxury in the greatest sense. Decadent bathrooms and lavish furnishings will help you to feel like you are king/queen of the castle.
The perfect place for a kid’s holiday in South Africa. With a games arcade, baby sitting facilities and man-made lagoon and night club for 13-17 year olds – you might not ever see them.
