This stunning eco-luxury lodge sits on a hillside overlooking Ruhondo and Bulera Lakes as well as the Virunga volcanoes.
Remote and magnificent, the location is one of the most authentic in Africa and ideal for trekking the great Mountain Gorilla.
Accommodation is in eight spacious stone cottages, each with a large patio which overlooks the lodge’s sunken gardens. As well as tracking gorillas the area is ideal for nature hikes around the lakes or visits to the local villages. Dian Fossey’s grave and Karisoke research centre are also nearby.
Location, location, location – at Virunga Lodge it is about nothing else. The accommodation is comfortable but it is the lodge’s location perched right on the top of a hill overlooking two lakes which is the major draw card. It does take about one hour to reach the starting point for gorilla treks so late risers may need to bear this in mind.
It's group dining - which is the perfect way to get to know your fellow trekkers. Chow down on some local food and wine and share you adventure stories and photos.
This is Africa chic through and through. Organic designs reflect the surrounding area, and gives that true rustic feel, which is shown throughout all 8 lodges. Luxurious, en-suite bathrooms, with full facilities including low-flush toilets and running solar hot water, allow you to enjoy all the comforts of home, while still being sensitive to the environment. Each banda has its own terrace with spectacular views of the volcanoes or lakes.
Although children are welcome at the lodge, if you are under the age of 15 you will not be able to partake on the treks.
