A visit to the spectacular Victoria Falls is on the wish list of many a traveller to Africa and this huge falling curtain of water is justifiably one of Zimbabwe’s, and indeed Africa’s, must-see sights. Rather than staying in the busy tourist town of Victoria Falls retreat upriver to Zambezi Sands which enjoys a lovely, peaceful location on the banks of the Zambezi river. Whether you take the 45 minute drive from town through the forest of the Zambezi National Park or the hour long journey on the river you will arrive at this small, intimate and friendly camp, a relaxing base from which to explore the surrounding area. The eight huge tents offer space and privacy with a lounge area and a splash pool on the deck overlooking the river. While you will want to visit the falls themselves and maybe enjoy some of the other activities in the area such as helicopter trips and white water rafting for the adventurous, the camp offers a number of ways to explore the river and the National Park including sunset cruises, canoeing and game drives and walks with an expert guide. The camp is part of Imvelo Safaris Lodges which does tremendous work developing schools, clinics and domestic water supplies so a stay at Zambezi Sands benefits local communities as well as wildlife conservation projects.
A wonderfully tranquil location on the banks of the Zambezi from which to visit Victoria Falls and enjoy the animal and birdlife of the river and surrounding bush.
The main lodge area has a bar, lounge and dining area and from the camp guests can enjoy a number of activities including game walks and boat trips on the river. Victoria Falls and excursions such as helicopter trips and white water rafting are within easy reach.
Al fresco dining is enjoyed at the lodge with a tasty menu offered to guests.
There are eight spacious, luxury tents with a lounge area, ensuite bathroom and an outdoor shower as well as a private splash pool on the deck overlooking the river.
Usually children aged seven and up can stay at Zambezi Sands but we can speak to the lodge to try to arrange for younger guests to stay. There are plans to add a family suite in the future.
