Kigelia Ruaha

Overview

Kigelia Ruaha is everything a safari purist dreams of. Small, isolated and offering easy access to one of the best game viewing areas of the beautiful Ruaha National Park. The focus here really is on the game viewing experience rather than luxury in the camp, but you will still be very well looked after and the food is very good.

The rooms are very spacious and comfortable and guests can enjoy a lazy afternoon on the wide veranda outside each room reading a good book or watching the world go by. A lot of animals wonder by the camp in the afternoons as well so they are ideal spots for some ad-hoc game viewing. There is a very traditional feel to the tents and the bathrooms have bucket showers and flush toilets.

As with all of Nomad's camps the guiding is superb and guests can enjoy game drives and walks when staying here. There is an extraordinary variety of animal life here and the birding is fantastic as well. A stay here would combine well with some time out in the Katavi and Mahale Mountains National Parks to complete a circuit of Tanzania's wild west.

Highlights

Our Thoughts

Kigelia is one of Ruaha's best camps for game viewing, located in the best game area of the park. In keeping with the wild feel of Ruaha, the camp is simple yet comfortable, with the focus being very much on your game viewing experience rather than an overly luxurious camp. That said, the staff here are superb and you will be very well looked after when not out and about exploring with your guide and enjoying the Ruaha's fantastic game viewing.

Dining at Kigelia Ruaha is a communal affair with meals enjoyed in the main mess area and dinners can be taken under the stars if the weather permits. They do offer bush picnics as well which are very popular with guests. Meals are simple yet delicious and there is fantastic variety bearing in mind the isolated location.

The camp is comprised of just six large safari tents all boasting their own wide verandas which are an ideal place to relax in the afternoons and enjoy some ad-hoc game viewing. You will have bucket showers and flush toilets in the bathrooms, but no running water but it is provided on request. For families, the two bedroom family tent is a great option and boasts it's own lounge area as well.
