Overnight flight to Johannesburg from London Heathrow
Fly to Windhoek and collect hire car. Drive to stay overnight at the Olive Grove Guesthouse, a welcoming oasis in this desert city. Located in a quiet, residential area of Windhoek Olive Grove Guesthouse is a stylish and friendly place to stay at the start or end of your time in Namibia. Unwind in the small, tranquil garden and comfortable lounge or pamper yourself with a massage in the Wellness Room. The new open plan kitchen and revamped menu offering simple, fresh, delicious food sets new standards for accommodation of this level.
Drive south to Sossusvlei to stay for three nights at Kulala Desert Lodge, overlooking the vast barren landscape and gateway to Namibia’s famous dunes. Surrounded by red dunes, desolate mountains and gravel plains, Kulala Desert Lodge is set at the heart of the Namib Desert. The camp's main buildings have been built in a North African style and constructed entirely from clay bricks with a wrap-around veranda overlooking a waterhole and the surrounding desert scenery.
Continue onward to the charming coastal town of Swakopmund for three night stay at Villa Margherita, the perfect base from which to explore the coastline and inland dunes. This friendly, upmarket B&B has just eight bedrooms, each individually designed and with a seating area or private lounge. Relax in the lounge or the courtyard garden while you plan the next stage of your Namibian adventure. There are many activities available in and around Swakopmund whether in the air, in the dunes or on the ocean. A lovely mix of heritage building and modern design with friendly, helpful staff.
Drive north into the stark beauty of Damaraland to stay for two nights at Camp Kipwe, where the accommodation is hidden amongst large granite boulders and you can visit rock engravings and search for desert elephant. Located close to its sister property Mowani Mountain Camp, Camp Kipwe is also nestled amongst large granite boulders. The main areas and the rooms are are built around the rocks with rough hewn wooden furniture giving a natural, organic feel that complements the rugged, rocky surroundings.
Continue to the Etosha region to stay for three nights on safari at Onguma Bush Camp, from where game drives into the Etosha National Park can be enjoyed as well as drives and walks on Onguma’s own reserve. Located adjacent to the eastern edge of Etosha National Park Onguma has a huge 34,000 hectare reserve of its own where many different species of antelope can be found with lion and black rhino also present. Each of the five lodges and camps has a waterhole so wildlife is never far away. The accommodation ranges from luxury tents to more rustic rooms and traditionally styled lodges. The classically styled Bush Camp has a swimming pool and thatched bar, lounge and dining area overlooking a waterhole.
Drive south to stay for two nights at Okonjima Plains Camp, the renowned home of the AFRICAT Foundation which rehabilitates Namibia’s big cats. A stay at Okonjima provides the opportunity for a fascinating insight into Namibia's carnivores and a range of accommodation to suit everyone. a three hour drive north of Windhoek, Okonjima has a beautiful, hilly bushveld setting and is home to the Africat Foundation, a non-profit organisation committed to the long term conservation of Namibia's carnivores through education, research and managing human-wildlife conflict.
Return hire car and fly from Windhoek to Johannesburg to connect with the direct overnight flight to the UK, arriving the following morning.
