Paradise lost can be found on the Mozambique shoreline of one of the world’s largest freshwater lakes, at Nkwichi Lodge.
Home to just six rustic but luxury chalets, and two private houses, the lodge is private, remote and wildly romantic. Each of the individually designed chalets is rustic but luxurious and is protected and hidden by trees. All of the chalets and houses come with their own private cove, verandah, fantastic outdoor bath-tub, sometimes carved from the rock, and a huge four-poster bed made from ancient tree trunks.
Technically lying on the Mozambican shores of Lake Malawi, Nkwichi combines most easily with a safari or stay in Malawi. Very remote and far from anywhere, each chalet has its own private cove. The two-bedroom Makolo House is a master-class in understated luxury.
The Lakeshore Deck is a popular place to have breakfast each morning, sitting under the shade of the enormous fig tree eating fresh mangos and homemade muesli whilst gazing out across the blue water.
When it comes to lunch and dinner the choice is yours. If you have a day full of activities suggest a beach picnic. For the evenings guests are ask individually as to where they wish to dine. Be it on the beach, a secluded spot you found, or in your chalet, you tell them, and it’s created just for you.
There is plenty for children to get involved with at Nkwichi Lodge, and is very family friendly. While you escape off for a gin and tonic, your children can be splashing around enjoying everything that’s on offer.
