Botswana is home to some truly exceptional camps, but here are just a few that we think offer the ultimate safari experience.
1. Mombo Camp
Recently reopened after a major refurbishment, Mombo Camp is one of Botswana’s finest safari lodges. Situated in the Moremi Game Reserve, an area that enjoys some of the best game viewing in Botswana, each of Momobo’s incredibly spacious canvas tent boasts wooden floors and features a large mosquito net-draped bed, a dedicated lounge area and a private veranda with a plunge pool where you can relax and watch the wildlife go by. A safari camp par excellence.
2. Sanctuary Chief’s Camp
Set on a remote island in the Okavango Delta, Sanctuary Chief's Camp is a luxury camp consistently rated one of the very best in Botswana by the likes of Conde Nast and Travel and Leisure. Renovated in 2016 to an exceptionally high standard and located in one of the best game viewing areas in Africa, the camp features 12 large and ultra luxurious bush pavilions overlooking the waters of the Okavango Delta, each with their own plunge pools and outside seating and dining areas, so you can sit back and relax and watch the passing wildlife without ever leaving the camp. A truly exceptional and exclusive safari experience!
3. Duba Plains
Rebuilt and reopened in March 2017, Duba Plains is considered by many to be one of the very best safari camps in Botswana. Located on a private concession in the iconic Okavango Delta, the camp features just five luxurious and spacious tents that have their own lounges, verandahs and plunge pool. In addition, each tent comes with their very own pair of Swarovski binoculars and also professional camera equipment for guests to use during their stay to enhance their experience on safari and to capture all those memorable moments.
4. Zarafa Camp
Zarafa Camp is an intimate, four room exquisite tented camp located on the 320,000 acre Selinda Reserve in northern Botswana, an area linking the Okavango Delta and the Chobe/Savute corridors and home to a magnificent cast of wildlife that includes all the big cats, huge elephant herds and other classic African animals. For the ultimate experience, we recommend booking the Zarafa Dhow Suites, a lavish, sumptuously furnished two bedroom tented suite with its own private staff and game viewing vehicle.
5. Jack’s Camp
Opulent Jack's Camp is situated on the border of the Makgadikgadi Pans in the Kalahari and is a welcome luxurious oasis in a harsh yet beautiful environment. Founded in the mid-1960s, this is the last remaining old-style African safari camp in Botswana, and the Persian rugs, crisp cotton linen and mahogany furniture conspire to create a distinct colonial feel. However, what really sets Jack's apart from other camps is the wide variety of activities it offers to guests who stay there including bird watching, quad biking, meerkat safaris and sleep-outs under the stars. It may be expensive, but it really is a truly unique property that's well worth adding to your travel bucket list.
