Sanctuary Swala is rapidly becoming one of our favourite camps in Tarangire, offering a wonderfully secluded location but with easy access to some of the best game viewing areas in Tarangire. The pool is a superb spot for ad-hoc game viewing between game drives, whilst the main part of the camp is ideal for relaxing in with a good book and is the focus for meal times where guests can share their stories of the day's adventures.
The tented rooms have been constructed on an open plan basis, so the bedroom areas merges into the lounge where guests can relax on the sofas with a good book and enjoy the views out into the park. The bathroom areas offer both indoor and outdoor showers, flush toilets and running water. The main part of the lodge is built around a giant baobab tree so is raised above the ground and you can enjoy the stunning panoramic views from wherever you are.
With an excellent guiding team and the chance to enjoy both walking safaris and night drives you will enjoy a superb safari experience at Sanctuary Swala. The secluded location of the camp means you come across very few other vehicles when out on safari and this really helps to make a stay here very special indeed
There can be few better spots in Tarangire for game viewing than the pool at Sanctuary Swala. As you laze in the cool waters, perhaps enjoying a G&T, you can admire the view down to the waterhole where the game comes to drink throughout the day. In fact, the location of the camp as a whole is ideal for game viewing, right on the elephant migration route as well as being close to plenty of iconic Baobab trees. The camp is elegant and laid back, ideal for families and couples but with a very friendly feel as guests generally dine together. This is a real haven in the bush and often overlooked in favour of some of Tarangire's better-known camps but well worth considering as your first choice - it really is superb.
Most meals are taken on a communal basis at Sanctuary Swala, however, if you wish to dine privately this can be arranged in advance or when you are in camp. Breakfast is buffet style, whilst lunches and dinners are Table d'Hote. If you are enjoying a full day safari then you will take a picnic lunch with you and surprise bush breakfasts, lunches and dinners are often arranged for guests.
With just 12 spacious, open plan tents, Sanctuary Swala offers a lovely friendly atmosphere but with plenty of privacy as well if that is what you are looking for. The rooms all have their own seating areas and the sofas are a great place to sit back and relax with a good book during the day. Indoor and outdoor showers are in all rooms and the bathrooms have all of the modern amenities one could wish for.
Children are welcome from ages 6 and older. Please note, all children aged 15 and younger are required to share with a parent and are not permitted on walking safaris.
