Sanctuary Olonana, The Masai Mara

The award-winning Sanctuary Olonana is located in the heart of Kenya’s most famous game, The Masai Mara.

Built on a private area of the Mara River the accommodation is very family friendly, the luxury tents available with extra beds for children and en suites. The best part of this location isn’t the breath-taking view of the river, but the resident hippos that colonise on the banks below.

Activities for all the family include the fascinating game drives, nature walks, and cultural visits to a nearby Maasai Village. Adults can also take advantage of the baby-sitting facilities offered at the camp so they can take advantage of the on-site spa facilities.

Activities tailored to children’s interests are also available with child oriented game drives, walks through a fun an adventurous nature trail, and visits to the nearby Maasai Village.

Whether you spend your day with the kids or doing separate activities, there’s always a great family meal awaiting you in the evening with children’s menus available.

Other great activities to enjoy together at an extra cost are the hot air balloon safari, fishing on Lake Victoria, and flying excursions in a vintage bi-plane.

Kinondo Kwetu

If you want to take a step away from the safari scene Kinondo Kwetu is the perfect place to display Kenya’s natural beauty. Cottar's 1920s Camp

We’re back on the game trail at Cottar’s 1920s Camp; this trip is fascinating, fun and educational. Set right in the heart of Kenya this traditional camp dates back over 100 years.

Being family owned, the camp is very family oriented with the option of four two-bedroom family tents, or the luxury five-bedroom private house. Daily laundry services are available for no extra costs, perfect for when the young ones get their clothes dirty!

No stone is left unturned when exploring the area, game drives are available night and day to provide a unique look at the game at night, along with nocturnal animals rarely seen on most safaris. Bush walks ensure the whole family can get some exercise and see the beautiful landscape from a different view. For something a little more extravagant hot air balloons and helicopter rides are available for an aerial view of the game trail, these once in a lifetime experiences are truly ones you and your family would never forget.

For a more relaxed day the camp has an outdoor swimming pool, offers cultural visits to Masai Village and even fishing and river swimming for the family to enjoy.

Lewa Wilderness

The final stop on our list is another family-run lodge, whilst offering a fantastic safari; Lewa Wilderness has its own unique activities that aren’t to be missed.

The lodge is very family friendly, strengthened by the Craig family who are very welcoming and attentive in making your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as can be.

Game drives are available throughout the day along with guided walks to get a more in depth look at the surroundings and see the game from a different perspective. Another great family activity is the tree top canopy walk, stride through the heights of the forest and get an aerial view of the stunning landscape.

Horse riding is available on the camp; this can be a fun warm up for the kids to get them ready for the camel supported walks!

Perhaps the most enticing activity of the holiday would be the chance to see the endangered Black Rhino. Be sure to keep an eye out and take plenty of pictures on the trail as Lewa is one of the best places to see the Black Rhino.
