Mkulumadzi

Overview

A new luxury lodge which has an idyllic setting at the confluence of two rivers epitomizes splendid isolation with first-class service.

The Majete Wildlife Reserve, almost unknown to tourists, is home to the elusive black rhino along with elephant, buffalo, leopard and a myriad of antelope. Accommodation is in eight spacious chalets, each with its own outdoor shower and private viewing deck located on the banks of the Shire River.

Our Thoughts

The Majete Wildlife Reserve is almost unknown to tourists, but Mkulumadzi is aiming to put it firmly on the map. Although game drives, boat cruises and bush walks are all on offer, the game is still sparse so at the moment it is probably best avoided for first-time safari-goers wanting to tick off the big 5.

  • Restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining
  • A lounge and terrace
  • Bar and shop
  • Swimming pool
  • Viewing deck
  • Lapa for evening campfires.

Afternoon tea is served on the terrace and on most nights dinner is served beneath the stars.

The perfect combination of luxury and isolation, Mkulumadzi boasts eight superb chalets set on the banks of the Shire River, shaded by giant leadwood trees and wild mangos. Each chalet has a spacious bedroom and lounge, en suite bathroom, outdoor shower and private viewing deck where guests can sit back and marvel at the sights and sounds of the river.

  • Standard Twin Chalet
  • Standard Double Chalet
  • Family Chalet
  • Honeymoon Villa
  • Game-drives
  • Bush walks
  • Hiking Majete Hill
  • Game-viewing from hides
  • Boating safaris
  • Birding trips on the Shire River
  • Cultural tours

There is plenty for children to get involved with at Mkulmadzi. They provide a nanny to sit with the children during the day for when you escape to go on Safari, or in the evening while you have a relaxing meal for two.

  • Short nature walks to identify spoor and droppings, collect pods, seeds and feathers.
  • Fishing in the Mkulumadzi & Shire Rivers.
  • Painting and colouring-in books.
  • Visits to African Parks Wildlife and Education centre where children can learn about the park, it’s wildlife and the surrounding communities.
  • Marshmallow roasting over the campfire after (or before!) dinner.
